Castilla vs Pontevedra
The Whites couldn’t pick up the last points of the season at the Di Stéfano ahead of the play offs.
With the objective of making the play offs achieved, Castilla had to fight with Pontevedra to qualify for second and third positions. In the end they came up short as they went down in the Alfredo Di Stéfano stadium after playing with one man less for the whole of the second half. In spite of everything, the Whites went in search of goals unti the end and they finish the league season in fourth place ahead of the play offs from promotion to Second Division.
José Manuel Díaz put out an eleven with lots of changes, but that didn’t hold back the team, who had a great first half. Dominating the game and looking for depth through De Frutos on the right wing.
De la Fuente tried his luck from set pieces (6 ‘and 18’) and Dani Gómez had the clearest chance with 34 gone. The forward beat the goalkeeper in a one-on-one, but left himself with too much of an angel.
Just before the break, De la Fuente was sent off after an error controlling the ball that forced him to commit a foul.
Álex took his place on the field, but Pontevedra took advantage and pushed forward and in the 48th minute Luca had to work hard to keep out a point-blank shot from the Galicians. However, the goalkeeper could not do anything with Arruabarrena’s shot on the hour as the visitors made it 0-1.
Rodrigo came on as they continued to look for a goal until the end, but the equalizer didn’t arrive and the Whites ended the regular season with a well earnt fourth position.
